Christmasis a beautiful time of year. We spend time with family, friends, and are able to share in some way, shape, or formbthebgift of giving.
One of my favorite Chriatmas songs is the Twelve Days of Christmas. Sure there are a bunch of gifts that their true love has given to them.
It’s a great story.
Or is it?
As we go through the month of December and move towards Christmas. I would like to spend some time on the blog looking at each of the gifts that the recipient gets from their true love. And I would like to argue that the True Love that is giving us these gifts is innfact God.

A Partridge in a Pear Tree
On thebfirst day of Christmas our True Love gave us a Partridge in a Pear Tree. To fully understand such as somewhat odd gift, we need to bit of background.
The 12 Days of Christmas was originally a song that was meant to teach truths of Chriatianity during a time when illiteracy was the norm. In order to help teach, the lessons were put to music, much like how you pro ably learned your ABCs. Each day is meant to build on the others which is for both to sound good and to reinforce the lessons that are being taught through repetition.
In the case of the first day out Patridge is meant to be a picture of Jesus Chriat who is on the tree.
Why a Patridge?
Thus is my thoughts on the matter. A Patridge would have been a practical gift. It has many uses. But fowl during the time the song would regularly have been in circulation would have been a gift that kept on giving. You could breed it, collect eggs, use the feathers for stuffing, and eventually it would have been a meal.
As for being Jesus, isn’t that what his death on the cross was? It is a gift that keeps on giving. For those who believe their sins they have committed are forgiven, and the sins the are and will be committed are being forgiven. And as the gift given on the first day, this lesson will be repeated over and over and over again.
